Blair proposes tripartite committee

Tony Blair has proposed the creation of a tripartite committee to press for reforms in the Palestinian security organizations, and improvements in the freedom of movement in the West Bank.

Mr Blair put proposed the committee in talks with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, as part of a plan of action, dubbed ‘The Rapid Effect Project’, designed to carry out a series of high-profile actions to improve the daily lives of Palestinians in the West Bank.

The tripartite committee would monitor the implementation of commitments made by both sides in matters of security in the West Bank.

Mr Blair warned Mr Olmert of the importance of the removal of road blocks in the West Bank, declaring them a major obstacle to economic activity in the West Bank.

Mr Blair also suggested forth a series of economic steps to Mr Olmert, including the establishment of a new Palestinian city near Ramallah in which it would be possible to settle tens of thousands of Palestinians currently living in dreadful conditions and poverty in refugee camps.

Mr Blair has proposed using Jericho as a model for the method for transferring to the PA full control over urban centers in the West Bank.
